Behavior Intervention Strategies
Knowing how to deal with negative or disruptive behavior in the classroom is essential to managing a classroom. Students need to be reinforced about the behavioral expectations at school or disruptions in the classroom which will slowly increase and cause unneeded frustration and stress.
-
Take note of the first signs of negative behavior and do not brush off the situation as if it is not important.
-
Do not stress over the situation but remain calm.
-
Never engage in an argument with a student, instead have a private discussion with them.
-
If negative behavior persists after our discussion, then I will send the student down to the administration office.
-
If however, the negative behavior persists after have a discussion with the administration office then there will be a meeting set up with the parents, counselor, student, and myself.

Positive Reinforcement and Consequences
I will have a Shout Outs box/bin that students can use to highlight their classmates. Students may receive shout outs by being kind, helpful, creative, etc. Before the school day ends I will share the shout out with the class and have the student put a pom pom in their bucket. Once the student has filled up their bucket they can then choose a reward from the following list:
-
write with special pen or pencil
-
receive a ticket
-
show and tell
-
pick a joke to read to class
-
wear slippers to class
I will also hand out tickets to students that are demonstrating good behavior and following directions. Once a student has collected a certain number of tickets they can then trade them in for a prize.
Consequences depend on the act and the level of severity but may include any of the following after the student has received the teacher look and a verbal warning.
-
phone call home
-
meet with teacher
-
loss of minutes during recess time
-
temporary loss of privilege
-
seat change
